
As part of their ongoing effort to educate the public and existing kiting community, the World Kite Museum located in Long Beach, WA is offering the following programs and workshops during February and March, to which you are personally invited!
Asian New Year - February 12-13 2005
This two day celebration will build a cultural bridge to Thailand and Malaysia. The World Kite Museum hosts an exhibit of kites from these two countries in their current museum spaces. The museum also hosts a Thai cooking demonstration on Saturday starting at 10:30am at the “Thai Restaurant” in Long Beach. In addition, a program of Thai folktales, music and dance begins at 1:30pm on Saturday in the prospective new building’s multipurpose room, and will repeat starting again at 3:00pm. On Saturday evening, a program about the Buddhist religion will be held at the Sou'wester Hotel in Seaview starting at 6:30pm. The Museum is open both Saturday and Sunday with special videos and kite making demos.
Quilting Designs for Kites - February 19-21, 2005
John Freeman, an expert kitemaker and quilter will help you make a 5 foot square diamond kite with "twisted log cabin" style graphics, guaranteed to make you dizzy! It will fly in lighter winds than most kites but can stay there when the wind picks up.
Plastic Bag Kite Art – March 18-20, 2005
Marten Bonestam from Finland will teach all ages how to make kites from plastic that are colorful and unique. Using a hot knife, he will show a technique for combining different colored plastic sacks into sky decorating kites. The Drachen Foundation and Fort Worden Kitemakers are sponsoring this event.
Making the Revolver - March 19-20, 2005
Barry Crites, a master of cellular kites, will teach how to make a kite that twirls in the sky. Using complimentary colors, you'll make a flying kaleidoscope.
