North Coast Championships (coming soon)

The North Coast Championships and Midwest International Kite eXpo are very excited to welcome you to the first ever sportkite championships on the shores of Lake Erie in Mentor Ohio. With the help of the Ohio Society for the Elevation of Kites (OSEK) and the Black Swamp Air Force, top competitors of all ability levels from all over the Midwest and Canada will converge on Headlands Beach State Park, about 30 miles east of Cleveland for two days of exciting single, dual-line and multi-line sport kite competitions on April 23rd and 24th, 2006.

There will be two very special awards given this year and hopefully in the future as well. The first award will be the "Al Hargus award for Rising Star". Al worked hard to develop new interest and encourage hard work to be a new and future developing talent. A simple calculation will be made to determine the Rising Star. The second award will be the "Mike Gillard award for Most Accomplished Flyer", again a simple calculation for the most accomplished Masters Flyer.

In addition to the competitions, there is plenty of room for recreational flying, and a single-line kite display is expected. Best of all, this event is FREE to spectators and recreational flyers. You must complete a registration and a waiver form before competing, demonstrating, ‘Learning to Fly’ or just plain recreational flying with a few contests thrown in. Bring your kites and help us fill the sky with color!!

If you have never flown a dual- or quad-line kite and would like to try, take advantage of the Learn-To-Fly field, where experienced flyers will guide you through your first lesson.

Fighter kites will have 4 competitions. Two competitions are new and are for the Masters in this event. The competitions are the ’King of the Hill’ challenge and the ’Buka’ Challenge. In the experienced and novice classes there will be two ’Line Touch’ Challenges. More standard competitions for their categories. Novices compete FREE and will hopefully receive a high-technology fighter kite with their award.

Rokkaku challenges will be open events and will be divided into team and individual battles.

Novices are invited to compete FREE in all disciplines . They will receive awards and prizes for winning their first places in their disciplines.

All Experienced pilot winners shall receive a cash prize and an award. Currently, cash values are up to:
